Here are five effective tips to keep you and your audience interested in your presentation

1. Choosing the right topic 正しいトピックを選択する

This can be challenging since the audience have different interests. Find a topic that you think you are good at while keeping it relatable to most people.

If your topic is not known to many, make sure to find ways on how to spark their curiosity and hunger for new knowledge. Showing video clips or photos might do the job.

聞き手はそれぞれ違うことに興味があります。それぞれに関連性のある話題をしながら、その中で自分が得意だと思うトピックを見つけてください。

自分のトピックがあまり知られていない場合、聞き手の好奇心を刺激する方法を見つける様にしましょう。動画や写真を使って表すことでうまくいくかもしれません。

2. Be prepared 準備をする

Always be ready with all the materials you need to use and the information necessary for the discussion during the presentation.

It certainly gives them the idea that you know your topic well. Don’t forget to double check the equipment if they’re functioning properly. And dress for success.

使用する為に必要なすべての資料と、プレゼン中ディスカッションに必要な情報を常に用意しなければなりません。それはあなたがそのトピックについてよく知っているということを、聞き手に知ってもらう為です。資料をダブルチェックして再確認を忘れない様にしましょう。

3. Make a good introduction and a memorable conclusion いいイントロと記憶に残る結論

A good introduction will help you to have a strong start. This will boost your confidence. On the other hand, having a memorable conclusion keeps you motivated to maintain poise and end the presentation outstandingly.

いいイントロダクション(始まり)はあなたが力強いスタートを切るのに役立ちます。これはあなたの自信を高めます。一方で、記憶に残る結論は、プレゼン中落ち着きを保ち、最後までプレゼンを際立たせることができます。

4. Make your presentation simple and interesting シンプルにかつ、興味深く

Presentations don’t often have to be very serious. You can inject a little humor now and then as an icebreaker or perhaps make an activity about your topic in a form of a game. Always expect that not all people in the group can comprehend the topic, especially when you are presenting in a different language like English.

To avoid misinterpretations or loss of interests, use simple words and expressions. As much as possible, try to avoid using jargon. If it’s inevitable, use pictures, definitions, or even translations if needed. Imagine as if you are talking to a child. If a child understands you, it means that you are quite good at explaining enigmatic things in the simplest manner.

プレゼンはあまり深刻である必要はありません。少しユーモアを入れるか、あるいはゲームの様にトピックについて話すこともいいです。特に英語など、別の言語でプレゼンをする場合は、すべての人がトピックを理解できるわけではないことを常に心に止めてください。

聞き手が誤解や飽きないようするために、簡単な単語や表現が効果的です。可能な限り専門用語の使用は避けましょう。やむを得ない場合は、必要に応じて写真や日本語を使用してください。写真は子供に見せる様な簡単なもので、もし子供がそれをみて理解できたら、そのプレゼンテーションは良いものと言えるでしょう。

5. Smile 笑顔

Think of yourself as a warrior in a battlefield. Wear your smile like a shield and be proud of yourself. Be thankful for the opportunity because not many people are given a chance to express their minds freely and be heard.

The audience would think that you are approachable and open-minded. This gives them a guarantee that you are open to constructive criticisms and and willing to accept any doubts or queries.

自分を戦場の戦士だと思ってください。盾を持つ代わりに笑顔をまとい、あなた自身を誇りに思ってください。自由に自分を表現し、意見に耳を傾けてもらえる機会を持てる人は少ないので、プレゼン出来る事に感謝してください。そうすると、聞き手はあなたが親しみやすく、素直な人であると思うでしょう。これにより、あなたはどんな批判も受け入れ、疑問や質問も喜んで受け入れてくれる人と聞き手に思われます。
